For all of us, the spread of the coronavirus has become the number one issue. We don’t know exactly what lies ahead. But the aim of this article is to look for positive activities to help us pass the time during this period of uncertainty, whilst we have to rethink our social interactions.
Today, 13 March 2020, following Parliament’s declaration of a state of emergency due to the coronavirus, we at Body Aesthetics we have decided to cease our operations. The public debate over whether the measures are excessive or, on the contrary, long overdue, will continue. And it is important that it continues, because this is what the democracy in which we live is all about.
But our decision is guided by our mission and values. For us Health and beauty go hand in hand parts of a whole. And we do not want to run even the slightest risk of causing harm to our clients, colleagues, partners or ourselves.
We are closing our doors not because there have been any confirmed cases amongst us or for any specific reasons, but simply because we believe that for „social distancing“ to work, it is necessary to let’s all get involved, as far as we are able. If the measures are excessive, we will probably never realise that we could have managed without them. If, however, they turn out to be vital, the best day to start is today.
We are experiencing concern and solidarity with everyone affected directly and indirectly by the virus. Those who are ill, those who have been infected, and those in quarantine. The doctors fighting the virus, who are putting themselves at risk and making great sacrifices for all of us. Families and friends. Colleagues, professionals and businesses that will suffer or be forced to start from scratch. The difficult financial situation facing all those who have had to stop working and do not know whether they will receive any compensation.
It’s not easy for us, because we love our work, we love our clients and we love interacting with them.
But we want to stay positive and we believe that there is hidden grace in an emergency. Just like when the power goes out and we discover the charm of a pleasant conversation by candlelight.
It is important to stay informed and engaged. But if we are forced to limit our work and social contacts, perhaps now is the time to devote ourselves to all those pleasures that would otherwise make us feel guilty. Here is our list of ideas.
Will it be a classic that we’ve long wanted to add to our collection?
Whether it’s a book by a young author or a gripping tabloid story – perhaps now we’ll have the time and solitude to rediscover the comfort and solace that literature brings us.
We’re always moaning that we can’t keep up with all the new stuff that comes out. It’s not even necessary, but films have a way of transporting us to distant worlds, whilst TV series draw us deep into a story that we can follow with interest.
The quickest and cheapest way to feel like we’ve moved into a new home is to rearrange our home. And what about all those household chores we’ve been putting off for so long? Changing a light bulb, or tightening a screw. Looking after our home brings us satisfaction and restores our belief that there is something within our control.
Whether you’re a seasoned cook or have long wanted to learn a few simple recipes, what better time to start preparing your own meals? It always tastes better when you’ve made it yourself.
When was the last time you played Monopoly, cards or charades? If the constant stream of information, stress and disturbing images is getting to you, switch off your computer and mobile, and turn off the telly. Indulge in some good old-fashioned games that make time fly. Games have saved humanity more than once during times of crisis.
What could be better than boosting the vitality and well-being of an organ?
It’s a myth. There is already plenty of information on how to turn almost any piece of furniture into a piece of fitness equipment. Physical exercise has been proven to boost the release of feel-good hormones to our brain and strengthen the body’s immune system.
Circumstances may not always allow us to look after a loved one in need. But we can always show concern, interest and solidarity. We must not underestimate the value of emotional and spiritual closeness, even if we are physically unable to help.
Just because we won’t be going to work doesn’t mean we can’t keep developing. We can exercise or read up on our field of study. Let’s look for a forum where we can chat with colleagues.
All you need is a bath full of fluffy bubbles and a few candles, and you’ll be able to shake off the stress of the situation in an hour or two. You could also add a massage from a loved one or a homemade honey face mask. Any form of self-care is good for the soul and helps us cope with built-up tension.
However complex and daunting the situation may be, we hope that our society will rise to the challenge. In a way that is very complex and difficult to accept, the world is offering us an opportunity to rethink our priorities and take a stand in defence of others – both those close to us and strangers. Many social media posts in the last few hours have said: „Today, it’s very easy to save a human life. You just have to stay at home.“
The material 9 ideas for things to do at home whilst we wait for the virus to pass… was first published on Body Aesthetics.
